Talking about the glittering event, the ceremonious evening saw names like Rashmi Uday Singh, Rahul Akerkar, Rajeev Samant, Seema Jaidev Mehrotra among others.

It is an initiative by Sonal Holland, India's first Master of Wine and Founder-Director of SoHo Wine Club, Subhash Arora, President, Indian Wine Academy and Founder-Editor of delWine, and Sourish Bhattacharyya noted food writer.

There were as many as 154 medals of Silver, Gold and Diamond awards. Phew! Including 23 Best in Class Trophies for outstanding wines in the competition results. Now that is something to spoil the Indian wine consumers with. Choices!

Over 301 wines entered in the competition. A panel of 12 distinguished wine experts and restaurant operators judged them over 2 days of listings, tastings and trials.

Food Pairing & Wines
I love pairing wines with most unexpected food including Indian Delicatessen like Maharashtrian Food, Regular North Indian Food especially the vegetarian varietals. Read my post on my Wine Tourism at Four Seasons Baramati

It was delightful to see medals and trophies awarded for the best food and wine pairings in the course of celebrations. They have awarded 6 different wines and balanced their selections between vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The six dishes were: Kathal (Jackfruit) Biryani, Baigan Ka Bharta, Kerala's Vegetable Stew, Butter Chicken, Pathrani Fish and Mutton Seekh Kebab.

I have tried cooking plus pairing Baigan Ka Bharta [Indian Mashed Aubergine] with wine and it was heartwarming to find it a place in the jury's award.

Here are the two stars of the show-

The awards night was followed by a delicious spread by Sofitel and some of the wine brands including the award-winning, opening the bar for attendees to sip. That's all for this year's India Wine Awards.
